I do post work as a full time job,I'm trying to get photography in there with it, but for now this is my main gig.
For this photo I did whats referred to as frequency separation. It makes a texture layer and a tone layer then when you duplicate the texture layer and put it on linear light you get a good sharpening effect. Its essentially like using the highpass filter, but no halos.
from there I used alot of dodging and burning to give it more of an hdr effect. I use a curve layers masked out on luminosity instead of the actual dodge and burn tools.
I laid a layer of blue over the whole thing on softlight and lowered the opacity. Then laid a layer of orange down on softlight and lowered the opacity, but this one I masked out and painted the orange into the rock areas. soft brush on like 20%
added a black and white layer on softlight at about 40% for some contrast. bumped the saturation up a bit, dropped the mid on the levels just a tad, pulled in some cyan on the color balance.
put another black and white layer down and tinted it orange, and dropped the opacity down to like 10% keeping it on normal, then a curves layer, but went into the blue channel and pulled it into the yellow a bit. and finally I cropped it
